It is with great enthusiasm and gratitude that we begin a new academic year at St. Benilde Catholic School. I am tremendously proud of our wonderful students and the many contributions of all those who make Catholic education possible at St. Benilde Parish: dedicated administrators, teachers, school staff, volunteers, and parents, and, in a special way, generous parishioners and benefactors. Thank you for all you do to support the ministry of Catholic education.
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is sponsoring a "Friends of the Poor Walk" on Saturday, Sept. 12th, at Laketown, Kenner. Onsite registration begins at 8 a.m., The one mile walk will start at 9 a.m. Music and refreshments will be provided from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Walkers are to solicit and collect pledges. Tee-shirts will be available to all onsite. Next weekend SVDP members will be at all the Masses with registration and pledge forms. St. Benilde School is proud to announce the launch of our latest innovation in Catholic education: SBS Online! The Solemnity of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is NOT a Holy Day of Obligation this calendar year. However, because of the importance of this Feast Day in the Universal Church, we will have Mass on Saturday, August 15th at 8:45 AM. Even though the obligation has been dispensed this year, all are invited and encouraged to attend Mass to ask for the special intercession of our Lady.
On behalf of St. Benilde School, I would like to welcome you to an exciting sports year. New this year, I would like to announce our new cheerleading coach Mrs. Ashlie Wilson. Also, the school is exploring the option of adding baseball and softball into our spring program. I will have a sign-up sheet in the PE room for those students who may be interested in playing. Players may play cabbageball and baseball/softball. I will be working with the coaches about scheduling practices and games.
