ALTAR SOCIETY'S MISSION
The Altar Society's Mission is to serve and honor God by helping to maintain and beautify the Lord's house. In particular, the members take care of the Lord's banquet table for the daily celebration of the Eucharist wherein we share in Christ’s body, blood, soul, and divinity.
The Eucharist is the greatest gift that Jesus gives to believers. It is much more than just a historical remembrance of Jesus' last supper. It is the transferring of heavenly realities to this physical world. Jesus tells us that those of us who share the bread of His body, the wine of His blood and relive His sacrifice of the cross, sustain our eternal life and become one body in that moment. The Altar Society is blessed with the honor of helping to prepare for this
mystery.
CARING FOR THE LORD'S HOUSE
The Altar Society is a special and integral part of the spiritual experience at St. Benilde Church. The volunteers wash and iron the altar linens, decorate the church with flowers each week, and see to it that the church is in order, neat and ready for everyone to focus on God’s Presence in Word and Sacrament during Sunday and weekday Masses. The members do light cleaning and polishing weekly. Meetings are held on Saturday mornings (roughly once a month) at 9:00 a.m. in the Library.
ENVIRONMENT
The Altar Society helps to prepare and maintain the worship space to reflect the liturgical season being celebrated by providing and caring for the plants, flowers, and décor. The purpose is not to decorate but to create an atmosphere of worship that invites the community into prayer.
